Artist's Comments

Fact: I actually had to make this twice.
(It got deleted by a terrifically convenient blackout the first time).

Naturally, I liked the first one better.
But I am no longer cursing my own stupidity and banging things, becasue at least it resembles the first one and still looks pretty spiffy.

Time: 3 hours the first time.
(1 hr, 20 mins for this one).

Medium: Digital collage.

Tools: Woodgrain textures, Macromedia Fireworks MX, loads of layers, a reference image, wacom graphire3 tablet.

Enjoy!

You're amazing, have I ever told you that? It's pretty awesome and I'm glad you didn't give up after the blackout or else :rage:
:iconstart-static:
Hahha aww, thak you so much! It means a lot to me, it really does.

I wouldn't give up - never fear! (It's just not my style to quit haha)

Thanks again, I'm flattered!

I'm glad you're not a quitter, but a Rocky Balboa. Without the accent (but the one you have). Actually, when I read your words I just imagine this guy from Aussie land from my work talking and it sounds pretty awesome.

I pretty much think you're awesome with a bunch of awesome sauce topped all over. So awesome.

this entire woodgrain theme you've got going on recently is simply amazing. it reaffirms my belief that you're probably the most texture-efficient artist on earth. i'm actually anxious to see more traditional work from you, because of the huge potential of texture in paintings, collage, etc. do you plan on doing much of that sort of thing in the future? whenever i see paintings (or digital work, for that matter) that use textures in creative ways, i'm always awed by it. i guess because in my own work texture isn't something i think about very much at all.

uhhhhh rambling, sorry.
anyway, keep up the fantastic work~

Haha aww.

I assume I do have quite an Aussie accent, but living in a country where everyone does, it's hard to notice haha. I don't have the yokel aussie accent though, thank god.

And yay haha. Aussies are fun.

And thank you, you're quite incredible yourself!

Yokel aussie accent sounds like it would be the redneck y'all speak. I'm probably way off but yokel in itself is quite the word.

He's pretty laid back and apparently, almost made it to the Athens olympics as a swimmer (backstroke) but graduated and didn't have time to train. Is everyone there like part dolphin?

I'm pretty incredible but you're like a stick of dynamite. Dy-no-mite

I thoroughly enjoy the new style too. It's not exactly your typical digital art which gives me a heck of a lot of freedom to explore without being subjected to expected conventions.

Haha I appreciate the sentiments about my texture efficiency... I find it so funny that until about a year ago I barely even knew what a texture was. haha.

I am also intrigued by your desire to see more traditional work... It is indeed on my to-do list after my exam period, so I can work up some traditonal stuff for my portfolio. I've never really experimented with textures in my trad. work... I suppose my background in oil painting is to blame. I don't paint with them anymore because I cannot actually make myself experiment with them. I am so set into a mindset about how oilpaintings should look haha.

I get to have quite a deal of fun with my acrylics though. When you say textures in paintings, were you envisaging mixed media sorts of projects?
Pray, do elaborate?

Your comments are always the most helpful and interesting - you have no idea how much your work inspires me!

Haha. Part dolphin?

Well, our country is surrounded by water on all sides.
I've grown up by the coast so the whole scuba diving/surf lifesaving/swimming/surfing/bodyboarding kinda crap was what I spent most of my childhood doing. So I suppose yes, in my town most people have a pretty good affiliation with water.

And wow. He sounds pretty cool.

And yes, yokel/bogan/redneck whatever you wish to call it really.

Hahaha reminds me of TNT by ACDC. lol.
*Is so unashamedly aussie*.

What about Air Supply? You are responsible for them right?

I live on the coast of the Pacific Ocean and I'm known for getting knocked on my ass by a wave when I was smaller and having the trunks float away. Sooooooooo cool I know.

Aussie land sounds pretty amazing, I've always wanted to go. Catch up with Paul Hogan, ya know.
