Artist's Comments

UPDATE: If you're in Australia and you want a pair, check out my journal here: [link] for more info.

---

Alas, we are not exempt from this aspect of society and thus, extra precautions must be undertaken to ensure footwear meets our creative standards.

These shoes cost me $6 from Kmart and were plain white canvas hi-top takeoffs. I couldn't resist a blank canvas (as many of my fellow artists will appreciate) so I decided that they should become my new shoes.

Hence, 6 hours and a crap load of acrylic paint later - the shoesies are born.

The graffiti-style inners of each shoe say "Start / Today" when placed side by side (or worn whilst standing duck-footed) which was a tribute to my spontanaeity and regular impulsive behaviour.

The outers feature two characters, the one that looks like a chef's hat is featured in my other acrylic piece 'Acid Rain', and the teddy bear is a recent original from a comic I created for a friend's birthday.

As a funny note, I wore these on a school excursion to Sydney and have 8 people offer to buy them off me - with offers from $20 - $120... That was kinda cool considering they cost me $6 to make haha.

Anywho, enjoy them in all their glory.

Specs:
Time: around 6 hours (i was using the smallest painbrush available for the entireity of the shoe)
Materials: Canvas shoes, acrylic paint, an extremely fine paintbrush and scotchguard (for waterproofing afterwards)

FU-CKING-AWE-SOME! I think I bought the same shoes to do the exact same thing with, have yet to start on them though, there's no way they'll turn out as cool as this either. I like the colour of your sheets also.

:sing: "I get so jealous..." ...You should make me a pair, just cause you're that cool haha.

xo
:iconstart-static:
Haha you know I would if you sent me the shoes and paid me lol.

If I had more time I'd do them for free lol. It's just that all my available time is split between school and work (to raise money for my trip to tanzania next year (which unfortunately is funded entirely by me and not my parents as they aren't coming with me lol)...)

Glad you like the shoes though, and the sheets.

The fact that my shoes made you add me to your devwatch list makes me giggle. But thank you, I'm ever-so-flattered.

Much Love.

Maybe I'll paint them for you for your birthday?
hehe.
Whenever that is....

Well I don't really have a birthday... I'm a test tube baby you see.

Omg, how scary going to Tanzania by yourself, you could totally get lost, I'm struggling as it is catching trains in Brisbane this weekend. What if you get kidnapped and put up for ransome... I don't know if that even happens in tanzania but yeah. Are you just going because you want to or is there something you gotta go there for?

Wasn't just the shoes that made me devwatch you (even though they are good enough to get a devwatch just on their own), your other stuff is way aweosme as well. Where do you work? I'll come stalk you one day.... =| don't worry... I'll do it from a distance so you won't even know I'm there haha.

Ahhh test-tube, I should've guessed. That explains the social problems... lol jk

Nah going to Tanz on my own is going to be LIBERATING! One of my friends is going (although I had no idea of this when I first signed up for the trip lol). And no, I don't think kidnapping of tourists is a common-place practice.

As for the purpose and intent of such a journey - I am mainly going because:
- I've never been overseas, and seeing as it will be my 18th year next year i thought it was about time to start.
- I have a huge interest in travelling to third world countries as they are so different from our own.
- The opportunity arose and I took it.
- I want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro before the glaciers melt sometime in the next 20 years...
- I want to meet my sponsor child and do some aid work overseas and give back to the world a little.

So yeah.

Those shoes have gotten quite a few favourites in the past couple of days... It's going great. Glad you like my other stuff too though lol.

And for the record, I work at B-to-the-AKERS Dee-Lite!! (ie Bakers Delight) it's rather hip. And oooh? A Stalker?

I feel like a rockstar, groupies and all!

Hows things with you?

Wow, sounds like you would get a lot out of it. Have fun, you will. Well I guess you can do your own thing while you are there but then if you find it hard or whatever at least you have a friend there. When do you go there??

Bakers Delight rules, my friend works there, the only thing I ever buy from there though is cheese and bacon rolls, not a very dedicated customer, I know. Have you ever worn that breadhead costume?? Haha, it rules. You should make me some bread at work some time, dedicate it to me... or are you not a baker? Just slice a loaf in dedication to me.

I know, stalkers are mighty intruiging people, you should really try it sometime, would probably be as liberating as going to tanzania... possibly more. Haha.

GroupieS? Plural... well if there are more then I shotgun being head of the fan-club.

Things with me.... fabulous. Been jamming with mine/my brothers band this week, been mighty enjoyable. School certificate results sometime soon... spending my remaining pennys... eating jatz... waiting for dinner to be cooked... writing this comment... yeah that's about all I think. :)

In response to your previous comment:

- I go to Tanzania in December of next year, conveniently after I finish my HSC. Not sure how that's going to effect my access to my results... Who knows. I don't care - I'll be living it up in Africa!!

- Cheese and bacon rolls? Sheesh, get your originality on.... And to answer your questions: Yes, I have been in the costume, yes I did dance, yes I am the biggest dramasexual in the bakery, no I am not a baker & yes, I will slice a loaf in your honour when I work tomorrow evening.

- I think I might just take you up on the stalking profession. Fancy a stalker?

- Yes, groupieS plural. I am just sooooo incredibly popular, head of my fanclub is a pretty big task what with all my billions of members and all... Are you up for a task of such gigantuan proportions?

- And wow, jamming with the band? Pray do tell what instrument it is that you play, or if you sing etc... I myself am a guitarist, have been for 3 and a half years or so now... I was actually repairing the electronics in my friends guitar earlier... There ain't nothing that tops the smell of solder in the late afternoon/early evening.

Good to hear you are good.
